So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all. You too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me. (Philippians 2:12-18 NASB)
This was my reading for today and there is so much good stuff in here!
-obey even when authorities aren’t around
-work out your salvation, as in do what has been given to you. We’ve been given this amazing gift of salvation and with it a life and commission to love others, don’t just sit back! and even more encouraging, you’re not doing it alone, “it is God who is at work in you.”
-Do everything without complaining or pouting (toughy for me…)
-we do these things to glorify God. We represent God as Christians and when we shine bright the world can see Him.
-rejoice in suffering because The Lord’s work is being done
-encourage each other by sharing your joys.
This last verse is what hit me today- encourage others by sharing your joys. Paul is talking to the church in this passage and telling us it is good to share our happy days as well as sad days. Of course, be careful not to brag.
So here is my joyful story for the day:
This morning the lady in line in front of me at Dutch Bros bought my coffee for me. I was so touched and it really gave me that extra boost to have a happy Friday. There really are nice people out there! I’d encourage you to be that extra nice person today, or tomorrow as today is almost over. Buy a coffee for someone, give a big tip, smile, give a high five, do something to make someone else’s day brighter!
